Janhvi's residence

Interior designer, Australia

An Indian couple, currently living in Australia, wanted to redesign their recently bought house. Their nostalgia for India, was one of the major influences for the design. The couple, now having a 4-year old son, were planning on having another kid, and so the design also reflects their needs as an Indian family as well as their needs as a host in a foreign country.

As the design is to be executed in stages(which might take some time), we decided to experiment with the way we would want to represent the final design and so converted some of the views into collages, the intent being to enable to view the realness of the space through a form of an architectural render.

The already present arched doorway was a starting point to this room. A lot of wood, tinge of brass accessories, and cane with a textured green wall was all that was requried to make this space cozy. The cane platform(which also hold storage space inside), the sofa, and the extended window seating would complete the seating arrangement for everyone to enjoy the warmth of the fire when the projector is not being used, without occupying more space and keeping the volume of the space intact.

The entertainment room was designed to be the informal space, where one would unwind. Be it some serious reading, or personal writing time, from hosting parties or just a family reunion, the space was designed to cater to them all. Lot of light was invited into this room, low seating, swing and ample amount of window seating provides the users with different seating possibilities thus adding to the informal feel of the space and the central position of the circular table unites it all.

The blue walls, the light wood flooring, and the white wood wall paneling all were decided according to the nautical theme as desired by the couple for the kid's room. The small area of the room demanded a bunk bed yet in a way where each would get their own visual ceiling space. The climbing cargo hammock is available as another spot for the kids to unwind and could also be unhooked when not in use. The furniture also was designed keeping around the central area of the room as a free space as a must have for the kids to paint, dance and explore themselves
